From 11th to 14th March, 2024 the students of the Tourism department participated in English classes dedicated to the celebration of Maslenitsa in Russia. The result of the work carried out by foreign language teachers Lera Sadovskaya and Inna Shamraeva is a 7-minute video in which students are presenting the information on the origin of the name of Maslenitsa holiday, the history of its celebration, and the changes that have occurred in Maslenitsa celebration traditions.

On Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, the film was sent to our foreign partner – Yerevan State Humanitarian College (Armenia).

On Thursday, March 14th, 2024, an educational webinar was held between the students of the “Tourism” department of the College of Tourism of St. Petersburg (Russia) and the students of the “Tourism and Hospitality” specialty of the Yerevan State Humanitarian College (Armenia) on “Traditions of celebrating Maslenitsa” topic.

Such online meetings are organized between the colleges on the basis of the Agreement on International Cooperation in order to exchange experience and improve the language skills of college students.

The event splits into two parts. Firstly, the students from different groups (126, 127, 222, 226, 229, 295, 320) were involved in recording the video. Tourism department students participated in circle dances, Maslenitsa rituals, in the form of dialogues presented information about master classes, tours and different activities that are often organized during the celebration of Maslenitsa in Russia. Secondly, the webinar was organized.

The students of 220 group of the “Tourism” department prepared “My Game” – the intellectual quiz, which was successfully performed by the students of 221 group during the webinar.

Armenian students also responded and presented the information about a similar Armenian holiday “Bun Barekendan” (Maslenitsa in Armenia), which is celebrated annually and precedes the forty-day Lent.

To sum up, the atmosphere of the webinar was joyful, fun and educational. We look forward to further International Cooperation.
