From 8 to 15 of October a business trip of the College of tourism of St. Petersburg delegation to Azerbaijan was organized on the basis of the invitation of Mingachevir College of tourism in order to study the international experience of professional hospitality training, to develop intercultural relations between educational institutions of Azerbaijan and Russia.

Acquaintance with Azerbaijan began with a visiting of Gyanja, which is called the "cultural capital" of the country thanks to the unique monuments of architecture of the XVII century such as caravanserai, Shah Abbas mosque (Juma mosque), a medieval bath (Chekyak-Hamam), included in the Sheikh Bahauddin architectural ensemble. It is the place where the Great Silk Way is stretched.

Today, Gyanja is taking part in the global tourism project dedicated to restoration of the Great Silk Woad, which will connect Gyanja with cities of China and Asia. The participants of the trip visited Lake Geigel, one of the most famous lakes of Transcaucasia and a part of Geigel natural reserve, which provides safety and inviolability of flora and fauna of Gyanja. visiting of this reserve is an important part of the tourism route.

Then the delegation visited Mingachevir, which is considered to be the fourth city in terms of population and power potential and is the main centre of energy, industry, science, education and culture. Meetings with the management, teaching staff and students of Mingachevir College of tourism were being held in 2 days.

Azerbaijan College of Tourism was established under the Ministry of Tourism on February 13, 2006. Training is conducted in the following specialties:

  • Tourism and Recreation Management
  • Tourism and hospitality management
  • Tourism and hospitality marketing
  • Organization of Medical Service in health resorts
  • Health & Spa
  • Culture and Art Tourism
  • Sport Tourism
  • Linguistics

The administration of Mingachevir College of tourism headed by Professor Ayub Ayyubov, the director and Doctor of Economics, welcomed warmly our colleagues, acquainted with the maintenancebase of the College, spoke about the organization of the educational process, educational work, as well as held a round-table conference with teachers and students.

College Students prepared a wonderful concert taken from works of national culture. During the talks they discussed the organization of joint work, the exchange of experience in the hospitality industry personnel training, as well as participation in The WorldSkills competition, the creation of cultural exchange youth projects, internships organization, etc. The meetings were held in a very welcoming atmosphere, promising great mutual interest. In the development of cooperation, the delegation of Mingachevir College was promised to be organized in terms of visiting visiting Saint Petersburg in mid-November, 2017.

The next step in the trip program was visiting of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. In two days our delegation got acquainted with the cultural and historical potential of the city, as well as the monuments included in the UNESCO world heritage list, such as the Fortress city of Baku with the Shirvanshah Palace, Maiden tower and Gala, the historical and ethnographic open-air museum.

On October 13, the delegation visited the Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management, and met with the administration of the University and discussed areas of possible cooperation and cultural exchange.

On October 14, the final meeting with the Director of Mingachevir College of Tourism was held. The parties discussed the results of the visit and proposals.

All participants of the trip noted the wonderful hospitality of Azerbaijanis, the natural and cultural diversity of the country, great prospects for the development of international tourism, mutual friendly interest in the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.
